Sydney FC vs Perth Glory
Heskey: Sydney FC to defeat struggling Glory
Although Sydney FC have been inconsistent this season, I’ve been impressed with their never-say-die spirit of late, having recently come from two goals down to secure late draws against Newcastle Jets and Adelaide Utd.
This shows me everyone is fighting for each other. However, they need to tighten up at the back because conceding 19 goals in 10 games is not good enough for a side who want to challenge at the top.
Going forward, Douglas Costa’s injury is bad news, but the in-form Joe Lolley has three goals in his past two games and is my one to watch.
I expect Sydney to line up with a three-man frontline with Patryk Klimala the focal point. The Polish striker has three goals in his past five matches and will be a threat to a Perth side that have conceded 30 goals in 11 matches.
Perth have only won once this season, although I felt they were extremely unlucky last time out when they were 2-1 up against Western Utd only to concede twice in stoppage time to lose 3-2.
However, it also proves how lapse they are at the back. I put that down to a lack of structure and leadership in defence as well as a midfield that isn’t offering the backline enough support.
For me, their only real quality player is Adam Taggart, who will score goals if provided the chances. But with not much creativity in the side, it’s tough for him up front.
I only see one result here and that’s a Sydney win.
