As ever, the top scorer tends to come from the team who create the most chances, and that is very clearly Manchester City, and they have a striker who very rarely misses.

He has started pre-season in red hot form and with a break over the summer, unlike some of his potential rivals for the golden boot. I think we will see a very fresh and hungry Haaland who will break the 40-goal mark in the league this season to claim top spot for a third year running.

His obvious main threats will be the likes of salah, but we are unsure yet if he will have the type of freedom under the new manager that he had under Klopp, Watkins who was in fine form last season but doesn’t take penalties for Aston Villa so could let his numbers down and if Newcastle’s Isak can stay fit for the whole of the season he will score a hatful too.

Two players whom I think will surprise us in the standings and be other potential threats will be, Nkunku at Chelsea whom we know has the quality to get goals and will if he too stays fit this season and the other is Fullkrug, just signed at West Ham. This is a player who knows where the goal is and likes to just stay in between the posts. More of an old school striker but has the talent to score from a lower number of chances per game.
