14/07/2023【Feature】Ellen White – Women WC group winner analysis
Ellen White is England women’s record goalscorer. She has competed at 2011, 2015 and 2019 Women’s World Cup, reaching the semi-finals in 2015 and 2019 and finishing third in 2015.
Exciting group stage awaits
Norway, New Zealand and Switzerland will battle for the top two places in Group A with the Philippines finding it difficult. I see Norway coming first with New Zealand taking advantage of home support to finish second.
There are two very strong sides in Group B, where I think Australia will finish first and Canada second. However, the Republic of Ireland and Nigeria could give them tough games.
Spain will win Group C but they’ll fight for top spot with the 2011 champions Japan, who I think will come second, ahead of Costa Rica and Zambia.
I’m confident England can top Group D and it’ll be close between Denmark and China for second place. The Danes will be favourites, but I think Asian champions China will finish above them with Haiti coming last.
USA should come top of Group E and the Netherlands second, although I believe Portugal have an outside chance of progressing, while it’ll be difficult for Vietnam.
I see Group F as incredibly interesting. France will most likely win it while I’ll go for Brazil to come second, but I hope Jamaica perform well and their match against Brazil will be fascinating.
Sweden are favourites in Group G with Italy, Argentina and African champions South Africa all eyeing second place. It could be close, but I see Italy finishing runners-up.
Finally, Germany will win Group H with Korea Republic finishing ahead of Colombia and Morocco to also advance.
